Kanye West has gone through various nicknames since becoming an artist, but he now wants to be identified simply as Ye.
According to court documents uncovered by E! News on Aug. 11, the rapper sought that his name should be modified from Kanye Omari West to just “Ye.” In the declaration, he noted that he is making the switch for personal reasons.
The nickname was originally bestowed to Kim Kardashian’s estranged spouse in 2018, ahead of an appearance on Saturday Night Live.
He said in an interview at the time that the nickname had a profound spiritual meaning.
According to Kanye West, he said
Months before he was expected to release the Yahndi album, he released Ye. That project was reportedly postponed in the end, with Kanye dropping Jesus Is King in October 2019.
There’s a reason why this is giving fans déjà vu. His diehard fans are still yearning for him to release Donda, his latest project, which was meant to be released on July 23.
Rather than releasing the album on streaming services, Kanye has opted to have listening parties all around the country. So far, he’s held two events in Atlanta, Georgia, and his next event is set for Aug. 26 in his birthplace of Chicago.
