DCP Abba Kyari, the head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, has been suspended by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba (IRT).
According to a statement from the Nigeria Police Force’s spokesman, Frank Mba, Kyari would remain out of service till the result of the investigation.
In a letter to the Police Service Commission dated July 31, 2021, the IGP indicated that the suspension was in compliance with the internal disciplinary process.
The removal will allow the committee to execute an independent inquiry into the criminal accusations leveled against DCP Abba Kyari.
DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, leads the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) (FCID).
The SIP will undergo a comprehensive investigation into all of the charges levied against Kyari by the US government, as documented in pertinent papers provided to the NPF by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
