Raphael Varane has accepted a huge contract with Manchester United until 2026, but there is no agreement in place for the defender with Real Madrid.
The Red Devils have been unable to make a formal proposal for Varane and are patient enough to wait, realizing that they have the upper hand in negotiations with the Spanish club, which has approved the Frenchman’s departure.
Varane’s deal at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2022, and Madrid is eager to secure a move as quickly as possible in order to recover a big fee for one of their top players.
The center-back has accepted a five-year deal with United in principle, but he has not decided to leave and is willing to leave his future in the hands of the two clubs.
Varane’s salary, which currently stands at €6 million per year at Real Madrid, will be substantially increased if he joins United.
Because of the delay, no agreement is likely in the near future, with Varane returning to Valdebebas on July 23.
